Self-Insured Employer
Claim Administration Terms
Definition
A company large enough (and approved by the state) to pay workers' comp claims directly out of its own funds instead of purchasing insurance.
Why It Matters
Self-insured employers often use a TPA to manage day-to-day claims, but the employer itself carries the financial risk.
