Compromise and Release (C&R)

Legal & Process Terms

Definition

A settlement type where you receive a lump sum in exchange for permanently closing your claim, including future medical treatment for the injury.

Why It Matters

Once a C&R is approved, you generally can't reopen the claim later even if the injury worsens — understand the tradeoff before agreeing.
